IPL 2024 to have sign language feed for differently abled fans

The official broadcaster of the IPL, Star Sports announced in a release on Thursday that it has collaborated with India Signing Hands (ISH News) to curate customised commentary.

New Delhi: The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League kickstarts with the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru contest in Chepauk on Friday. The upcoming edition of the cash-rich league will have a special things for the disabled people. A sign language feed and a descriptive commentary for the deaf, hard-of-hearing and visually-impaired fans awaits the disabled people in the premier tournament.

The official broadcaster of the IPL, Star Sports announced in a release on Thursday that it has collaborated with India Signing Hands (ISH News) to curate customised commentary. In consultation with specialists on-boarded by ISH, the feed will provide ball-by-ball updates using the Indian sign language, as well as regular verbal score updates.

“What makes it even more special is its ability to engage with visually impaired fans with commentators describing every moment of the game along with regular verbal score updates,” said the broadcaster.

Cricket’s biggest extravaganza

The Indian Premier League featuring 10 teams promises entertainment to the fullest in the 17th year of the showpiece event. The biggest cricketing extravaganza is filled up with hot news even before the beginning of the tournament with captaincy changes and pullouts headlining the marquee event. After news about Hardik Pandya replacing Rohit Sharma as the skipper of the Mumbai Indians franchise, MS Dhoni handing over the Chennai Super Kings captaincy reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad was the biggest surprise ahead of the beginning.

Lot of the foreign players especially from England and Australia are pulling out of the cash-rich league citing personal reasons, with Australia’s star spinner Adam Zampa out of the show on Thursday. With 10 ten fully-equipped teams battling it out for the coveted trophy, it remains to be seen who emerges on the top of the list.
